After Parry’s death in 1935, Albert Lord took up the project of curating and publishing the material collected between 1933 and 1935. Taking a cue from Parry, who had planned to conduct fieldwork in neighboring regions of Albanian in order to document the movement of songs across linguistic boundaries, Albert Lord, then a Junior Fellow in the Society of Fellows, visited Northern Albania in the fall of 1937 to collect songs. He collected by dictation over one hundred epic songs, personal narratives, and repertories, including the longest Albanian epic ever collected.
